Meet Bones our loveable Frenchy/Boston who was born around 01/22/2020.  This boy has a heart of gold and the courage of a lion.  He was originally found in the parking lot of a local call center.  He had recently had surgery for a blockage and was severely emaciated, weighing only 10.2 pounds.  We were able to locate the surgeon; however due to HIPPA they could not share the owner’s information with us.

We immediately rushed him to our vet, who diagnosed megaesophagus.   We were told his chances of survival were not good due to the severity of his condition.  We built a Bailey chair and started feeding our little man gruel three times a day.  Our vet was shocked when he started thriving.  His diet only consists of ProPlan ground Chicken and Rice mixed with water.  If he eats anything else, you will instantly regret your decision.  You haven’t lived until you experienced megaesophagus regurgitation.  Its’  not for the faint of heart.

Like most dogs with this condition, they are constantly trying to eat things they shouldn’t.  When he goes for a walk, we put a muzzle on him to prevent digesting rocks, toys or any other small object.  He cannot be in a home where toys or food are on the floor.  He will swallow it and have to have surgery.  For his protection, he cannot be adopted to a family with small children.  He also cannot have any type of snack or treat, unless it is liquified in his bowl while sitting upright.

Having a dog like Bones is hard work.  You have to be able to feed him three times a day, since this is his only water.  He cannot be left outside for any period of time.  He always has to be watched to make sure he doesn’t digest inappropriate items while outside or playing.

He loves to play with other dogs, but all food must be picked up.  Did I mention he is a vacuum cleaner when it comes to trying to find new things?  We had him evaluated for other treatments, but so far he has not been a candidate.

Although it sounds like he is more work than most dogs, he makes up for it by his propensity for love.  He loves his people.  This dog wants nothing more than to be a part of his own family.  But it is important that the family know how to protect Bones from himself.

Bones weighs 26 pounds, is 3 years old and his adoption fee is $300.

Bones is not available for out of Texas adoption.
